Oh, where do we start with Collin & Shelley? We’ll start with how these people mean the world to us. And that it means the world to us to have been their photographers. Not just their wedding photographers, but their proposal and engagement. We can’t help but get emotional thinking about all of the history behind this wedding, and are so excited to finally share it!
As you probably know, Reid and Collin go WAY back. Like, barely out of diapers. They were 3 and 4 years old when they met, so imagine how excited Reid was when Collin called and said he had met somebody really special. We knew just by the way he talked about Shelley that this was it. She was the one. As Collin shared Shelley’s story, we knew that it was only by God’s doing that they were able to meet.
Shelley grew up in Bolivia. That’s right, the jungle! Her parents were missionaries there, originally from Michigan, and it wasn’t until Shelley was an adult that she moved back to the states. She started in Michigan, where her original roots were planted, but wasn’t a fan of the cold weather, so she decided to move to Dallas where an aunt and uncle lived. Once she finished nursing school, she started a job that she adored right there in Dallas. From Bolivia to Michigan to Dallas. Remember that!
Collin was born in Oklahoma, but his family moved to Arkansas when he was little. That’s when the Lagree family met the Riggan family. Collin lived in Arkansas until a few years ago when his job in Conway relocated him to Dallas. See where this is going? 🙂 One of Collin’s good friends from college in Arkansas had also moved to Texas, and put a bug in his ear one day that there was this girl named Shelley that Collin should meet. There was just one little hang-up though… she wasn’t available. Collin joked with Grant that he should stop trying to set him up with an unavailable woman. Some time went by, and Collin & Shelley’s paths finally crossed… and she was available 🙂
Once they met, it was instant chemistry. Collin knew that this was the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. Shelley fell in love with him too, and here we are! To see his proposal, go here! After they were engaged, we went to Dallas to spend the weekend with them, and shot their engagement session on their home turf. It’s an understatement to say that we LOVE Shelley! She and Collin compliment each other so very well, they bring out the best in each other, and they ADORE each other! We knew this would be an unforgettable wedding.
When they got engaged, they threw around ideas of where to have the ceremony. Between the two of them, they have family in Bolivia, Michigan, Texas, Indonesia, Oklahoma and Arkansas! They decided that a destination beach wedding on Lake Michigan would be perfect. Maranatha is a camp where Shelley’s family would spend their furloughs, their home away from home. The beautiful beach backdrop with an intimate family setting was exactly how they wanted to celebrate their beginning as husband and wife.
Their wedding was nothing short of magical! Everyone at the wedding, and friends all over the world, were praying for the weather to cooperate, when the forecast showed strong winds and heavy rain most of the day. Oh boy did God show up 🙂 The hurricane-like winds and heavy rain may have changed our plans for their first look, but it was more beautiful and emotional than we could have imagined. Just when we thought the rain wouldn’t let up in time for any portraits on the beach, the wind stopped completely and the rain disappeared. We all sprinted down from the cottage to the beach for the fastest bride & groom and wedding party portraits we’ve ever done! And we finished with 15 minutes to spare!
The wind picked back up, but Collin and Shelley had their dream ceremony rain-free, and the sun even came out! It was incredible! The ceremony was followed by a reception full of laughter, love and some insanely delicious food. Collin and Shelley’s first dance was one for the storybooks. Her smile, his loving gaze into her eyes… oh my. Melt. Your. Heart.
Collin and Shelley, we love you two so dearly, and it was an absolute honor to tell your love story through photographs. You two are going to do amazing things and touch so many lives for Christ through your marriage, and we can’t wait to see what all He has in store for you!
